Deadlines for May: Eight Single Poem Contests & Awards

We’ve got to be thankful to live in a world which will pay thousands of dollars for a single poem. Here are eight contests to submit your poems to this month.

2018 Adrienne Rich Award for Poetry

The poet Noami Shihab Nye is judging this year’s Adrienne Rich Award for Beloit. Send them up to three unpublished pieces for a chance at the $1,500 prize and publication in the journal.

Richard Peterson Poetry Prize

Crab Orchard Review wants to award a poet with $1,250 and publication online—just send them one, single poem. Your very best. Two finalists will also be awarded.

2018 Crab Creek Review Poetry Prize

Maggie Smith is going to select the winner this year, awarding a poet with $500 and publication in Crab Creek Review. Send up to 4 poems, unpublished.

Frontier Industry Prize: $3000

Three amazing judges—Don Share of Poetry Magazine, Nicole Sealey of Cave Canem, and Matthew Zapruder of Wave Books—have come together to select the winner of this substantial award: $3000 and publication in Frontier Poetry.

The American Poetry Review editors are looking for a single poem from a younger poet (under 40 years of age). The winner will receive the $1000 prize and publication.

Janet B. McCabe Poetry Prize

Ruminate has invited Ilya Kaminsky to judge for the 2018 prize. Send two poems, and one may win $1500 and publication. The runner-up will also be awarded $200 and publication.

Laux/Millar RR Poetry Prize

Dorianne Laux and Joseph Millar get to select the winners of Raleigh Review’s 2018 contest. The first place winner receives $500 and publication—all finalists will be published as well, with a $10 payment and year long subscription.
