Every 15th of the month: new deadlines, new contests, and new opportunities for your voice to find the world. The next six weeks include: our own Frontier Poetry’s Chapbook Contest,  residencies at the VCCA, Crazyhorse, Bitter Oleander’s book prize, and more.

FEATURED: 2019 Frontier Poetry Chapbook Contest

Frontier Poetry is offering the winner of this chapbook contest $2000 and publication of a free-to-download digital chapbook. You can read last year’s winner here. The winner will be selected by guest judge, Jericho Brown.

Residency at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts

Need a couple weeks of space to finish up that project? The VCCA is accepting applicants for its residency program: private housing, free meals, beautiful location.

The Georgia Review’s 2019 Loraine Williams Poetry Prize

Submit 1-3 poems (10 pages max) to be considered for a prize of $1,500 and publication. Reading Fee: $15

Best New Poets Open Competition

Emerging poets without full-length collections are encouraged to submit two poems (up to 10 pages). Work must be unpublished or published after Jan. 1, 2018.

YesYes Books 2019 Open Reading Period

Manuscripts of 48-120 pages will be considered for publication by YesYes books. Publication includes 40 author copies, $500 toward tour expenses, $1000 advance toward royalties, and 20 to 30 percent royalties.

Ruminate’s Janet B. McCabe Poetry Prize

Craig Santos Perez is judging for this year’s McCabe Prize. Winner receives $1500 and publication, and though Ruminate is a contemplative magazine, they are open to submissions from all genres and styles.

VIDA / Chautauqua Writers’ Festival 2019 Fellowship

This is an opportunity for a full ride to the CW Festival, provided by VIDA. They’re looking for applicants who are women or non-binary writers of color. Winners will get to enroll in Khadija Queen’s June workshop, with the option of limited hotel stay with a discount.

Crazyhorse

Crazyhorse is closing their general submissions soon! Make those dreams come true, submit.

New England Review’s Digital Project

Landing a piece in NER is a dream come true for many poets (they’re one of the toughest markets out there). This project is looking for essays that “presents writers’ responses to other works of  art in any media.” 500-1000 words.

Nashville Review

NR is closing their doors this month. Send them up to 3 poems—but keep in mind that they do first come first serve and cap submissions at 750. Submit soon.

Granta’s also closing their general submission window. They want up to three poems of yours.

Kingdoms in the Wild Chapbook Contest

The winning chapbook here gets a publication run and a $250 prize. This one is only open to emerging writers with no full length collections yet published—send them 15-30 pages via email.

The BOPLPA offers to its winner $1000 and publication of their book with Bitter Oleander Press in Spring 2020. Anyone writing in English is welcome to submit—send them your 48-80 page manuscript.
