Every middle of the month: new deadlines, new contests, and new opportunities for your voice to find the world. The next few weeks include: Palette’s Love & Eros Prize, Frontier’s Award for New Poets, book contests, a chapbook prize, and submission opportunities.


 

DEADLINE: 10/18

Submissions are open for our inaugural love-themed contest.All iterations of love are welcome—send us your bitter and your sweet, your queer, platonic, reverent, and devotional. The winning poet will be awarded $3000 and publication on Palette Poetry. Second and third place will win $300 & $200 respectively, as well as publication. The top ten finalists will also be recognized.​ The guest judge this year is Kaveh Akbar.

This award is for authors with no more than one full-length collection at the time of submission. A distinguished panel of emerging poets will guest judge the contest: Mai Der Vang, Andrés Cerpa, and Rosebud Ben-Oni. The winning poet will be awarded $3,000. Simultaneous submissions accepted.

This prize valued at $2,000 is given annually to a woman poet over the age of 40 who has not published a book in any genre. The winner receives $1,000, publication in Voices From the Attic, and travel and lodging to give a reading with the contest judge at Carlow University. This year’s judge is Lee Ann Roripaugh. Submissions open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents.

A prize of $5,000 and publication by University of Arkansas Press is given annually for a poetry collection. Series editor Patricia Smith serves as the judge for the Miller Williams Poetry Prize. With the help of screeners, she awards three authors publication in the series.

A prize of $1,500 and publication for a chapbook-length poetry collection in perfect-bound print edition. Royalty contract. Ingram Group distribution. Open to ALL, and international entries are welcome. Multiple submissions are accepted.  The top ten finalists will be offered publication.

Tupelo Quarterly 

Tupelo Quarterly is currently accepting submissions of poetry, prose, visual and mixed-media art for their literary journal. Submit up to 5 previously unpublished poems of any style or sensibility. Simultaneous submissions are welcome.

Cherry Tree welcomes submissions of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and literary shade. We are open to submissions for Issue 8 from August 1 to October 1, 2021. Cherry Tree only considers original, unpublished work. For accepted work, we purchase First North American serial rights. Payment is $20 per contributor and two contributor’s copies.

The $3 reading fee helps us to pay contributors and defray publication costs. 10% of these fees will be donated to Horizons, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization which which promotes academic excellence and creative inspiration among underserved youth in Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties, MD (where Cherry Tree is produced). The editors will match the donation with a personal donation (up to $500).

Please submit up to five poems at a time, totaling no more than ten manuscript pages. For longer pieces or sequences, send no more than ten manuscript pages total, and mention in your comments or cover letter that the submission is part of a longer work. Poet’s name and contact information should appear at least once in the file.
