LAST DAY: Palette Poetry – 2019 Emerging Poet Prize – $3,000 Award

For this contest, we only accept submissions from emerging poets (i.e. those with fewer than two full-length collections out at the time of submission). Guest judge Kim Addonizio will select the winner and two runners up from the top 10 finalists chosen by the editors. The second and third place winners will also be awarded publication as well as $300 and $200 respectively.

LAST DAY: Red Wheelbarrow Poetry Prize 2019

Three prizes: $1,000, $500, $250. Five finalists published in 2019 Red Wheelbarrow. Letterpress broadside of winning poem. Submit up to three poems. Each poem must fit on a single page. Final Judge: Marilyn Chin

Tin House Online: Broadside Thirty

No more than three poems and each poem must be 30 lines or fewer. $100 payment for Broadside Thirty poems.

Beloit Poetry Journal

Regular submissions for summer reading period. Limit your submissions to 5 poems OR a single long poem. No more than one poem on a page. They don’t use contributors’ notes. NOTE: The reading period may close early (they will close the door after 800 submissions), so ACT FAST!

3Elements Review

Issue 24. Only ONE poem per submission. Your poem must include all of the following three words: sleepwalk, wane, and effigy.

Tinderbox Poetry Journal – 2019 Brett Elizabeth Jenkins Poetry Prize

One winner will receive $750 and one runner up will receive $500. Submit up to 3 poems (5 pages maximum). All work submitted for the contest will be considered for publication in the Winter Solstice Issue, which will be published on December 21st. This year’s judge is Vanessa Angélica Villarreal.

Reading Fee: $12 (or $17 option if you request editorial feedback)

Radar Poetry: The Coniston Prize (for Women Poets)

First prize is $1,000 for a group of 3-6 previously unpublished poems by a female poet writing in English. Finalists will also be awarded publication. Submit a group of poems that is intentionally cohesive in some way – whether connected by subject matter, voice, style, or imagery.

Black Warrior Review

9/2 is the deadline both for Black Warrior Review’s general submissions and 2019 Poetry Contest judged by Tommy Pico. Submit up to 5 poems for general submissions or a packet of 3 poems for the contest.

Burningword Literary Journal

Poetry in any form or style. Submit up to 5 poems in a single file. No more than 10 pages total.

Frontier Poetry: 2019 Frontier Award for New Poets / $3000 / Judged by Ocean Vuong, Kaveh Akbar, and Eve L. Ewing

Open to all new and emerging writers (i.e. poets with no more than two full-length books). Winning poet will be awarded $3,000 and publication in Frontier Poetry. Second and third place will win $300 and $200 respectively, as well as publication. The top 10 finalists will also be recognized.

Cave Canem Foundation, Inc. announces the 2019 Toi Derricotte and Cornelius Eady Chapbook Prize

Dedicated to the discovery of exceptional chapbook-length manuscripts (25-30 pages) by Black poets. Winner receives $500, publication by Jai-Alai Books in 2020, 10 copies of the chapbook, a residency in early April at The Writer’s Room at The Betsy Hotel in Miami and a featured reading at the O, Miami Poetry Festival. This is not a first-book award. All unpublished, original collections of poems written in English by black writers are eligible. First readers are Brionne Janae and Nick Makoha. Final Judge: Danez Smith

The Rockford Review: 2020 Winter-Spring Edition

Submit up to three new, previously unpublished poems (50 lines or less) or three new prose pieces (1,300 words or less) or a combination of up to three poems and prose pieces to be considered for publication in The Rockford Review. No theme. Simultaneous submissions are fine, as long as you notify us if any or all of your submissions have been accepted elsewhere. Please include your bio, 50 words or less. Notification by December 15, 2019.
